The pharmacists of Dickson Apothecary have been compounding specialized medications since the store opened in 1977. Dickson Compounding Pharmacy was formed in 2006 due to the increased volume of compounded medications and decision to operate on a cash-only basis. The compounding center is located in the Dickson Apothecary building and markets services to area practitioners and offers classes for patients. Dickson Compounding Pharmacy now prepares a wide variety of non-sterile compounded formulations including bio-identical hormone replacement therapy, creams, liquids, sublingual tablets, and veterinary medications.

Dickson Apothecary has always looked for innovative ways to improve our customers' health. Community Home Infusion operated out of the Dickson Apothecary building from 1988 to 1999. Both Dickson Apothecary and Kingston Springs Pharmacy administer immunizations against infuenza, pneumonia, tetanus, pertussis, and shingles. Both pharmacies also offer medication therapy management services. Dickson Apothecary has been a clinical education site for students from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center College of Pharmacy and Mercer School of Pharmacy for many years. Dickson Apothecary employed its first post-graduate resident pharmacists in 1998. The preceptor program has now grown to include students from Lipscomb University College of Tennessee, East Tennessee State University College of Pharmacy, and St. Louis College of Pharmacy.

In 2012, the decision was made to sell Goodlark Pharmacy and Dickson Apothecary East to staff pharmacists John Kelsey and Christopher Konecny. The sale allowed John and Chris to reach their goal of owning their own pharmacies.
